🆕 Lucky Number 7! 🆕

Jackson residents have been very vocal about what new businesses they want to see come to Jackson. Here are seven of the most requested businesses locals would love to see in our city, each offering something unique that would make Jackson an even better place to live:

  1. Trader Joe's

    • Known for its affordable organic and specialty foods, Trader Joe's would bring Jackson a much-needed variety in grocery options. From unique snacks to healthier meal choices, this store is often praised for its quirky charm and excellent customer service. Trader Joe’s will be adding 12 new U.S. locations this year.

  2. Costco

    • Who doesn't love bulk shopping? Although there is already a Sam’s Club, many residents who have had the chance to shop at Costco rave about how much better the quality is there. Costco would not only provide Jackson with access to discounted goods in large quantities but also offer perks like a pharmacy, vision services, a food court and high employee salaries. The savings and variety it delivers would make a big impact for families and small business owners alike. Costco plans to open 19 U.S. locations this year and 10 International locations.

  1. Dave & Buster's

    • Entertainment meets dining! Dave & Buster's would bring a fresh and exciting venue for family outings, date nights, and group events. With a mix of arcade games, sports viewing areas, and a full restaurant, this addition would make Jackson a regional destination for fun. Dave & Buster’s plans to open a few locations in the U.S. and 33 locations internationally this year.

  2. Golden Corral

    • A buffet like no other, Golden Corral’s endless options and family-friendly atmosphere make it a top choice. Whether you're in the mood for comfort food, fresh salads, or a hearty breakfast, Golden Corral would cater to every craving. Golden Corral is looking to open 200 - 250 new locations this year.

  3. Publix

    • A household name in many parts of the South, Publix is known for its premium grocery shopping experience. With its fresh produce, bakery delights, and stellar customer service, Publix would elevate the grocery scene in Jackson and provide more choices for consumers. Publix plans to open around 200 locations within the next 5 years.

  4. Top Golf

    • A perfect blend of sports and socializing, Top Golf would create a unique entertainment experience for Jackson. From casual hangouts with friends to team-building events, this venue offers golf games, great food, and a fun atmosphere that appeals to all ages. Topgolf is looking to open at least 5 to 10 new locations this year.

  1. Main Event

    • Main Event is a one-stop destination for fun, offering bowling, laser tag, arcade games, and more. It’s a family-friendly spot that also caters to corporate gatherings and birthday parties, providing endless options for entertainment and dining under one roof. The Main Event may be looking to open at least 5 to 7 locations within the next 2 years.

🔍 Why Residents Want These! 🔍

The desire for these businesses stems from a recurring theme: convenience and variety. Many Jacksonians are tired of having to make long trips to Memphis, Nashville, or even further for the shopping, dining, and entertainment options they crave. Here’s a deeper dive into why these businesses are desired:

  • Better Grocery Shopping Options: While Jackson does have several grocery stores, residents want more variety, better quality, and access to unique products. Stores like Trader Joe's and Publix are known for filling these gaps, offering fresh, specialty, and organic items that aren’t always available locally.

  • Enhanced Entertainment: Families and young professionals are looking for ways to enjoy their time in Jackson without traveling to larger cities. Dave & Buster’s, Top Golf, and Main Event would add much-needed entertainment options that appeal to all age groups.

  • A Wider Variety of Restaurants: Although Jackson boasts some great local eateries, chains like Golden Corral provide consistent, affordable dining with options for everyone. It’s not just about food; it’s about creating spaces for families and friends to gather and enjoy.

  • Shopping Convenience: Costco’s bulk shopping model would save Jackson residents time and money, especially for larger families and businesses. Many people have expressed frustration with driving out of town just to stock up on items that a local Costco could easily provide.

🏢 What Are Our Chances? 🏢

The big question on everyone’s mind is whether Jackson is a viable location for these businesses. Let’s break down the possibilities for each:

  1. Trader Joe’s:

    • Trader Joe’s typically looks for locations with a strong customer base of young professionals and families, along with a high level of pedestrian traffic. While Jackson has grown in recent years, we’re still competing with larger cities. However, the demand for healthier and specialty groceries might make us stand out. (Trader Joe’s Target customers make $10,000 above the average income in that area. For Jackson this would be around $58,000 to $60,000 annual household income.)

  1. Costco:

    • Costco considers factors like population density, average household income, and proximity to existing locations. The good news? Costco is aggressively expanding in 2025, and Jackson’s regional importance could make it a contender in the future. The challenge? Meeting their stringent requirements for land size and infrastructure. (Costco, “Usually” looks for areas that have a household income of over $75,000.)

  2. Dave & Buster’s:

    • This entertainment giant thrives in areas with a strong entertainment culture and a younger demographic. With the recent focus on making Jackson a hub for family-friendly activities, our city could be an attractive option, especially if the local community rallies behind it. (Dave & Buster’s tries to open in areas with a household income around $65,000.)

  1. Golden Corral:

    • Golden Corral is more likely to consider mid-sized cities like Jackson. Their requirements are less restrictive than others on this list, making this one of the more realistic additions. It’s all about showing the demand and finding the right location. (Golden Corral aims to locate their restaurants in locations that have a large population with a household income of $50,000 to $60,000.)

  2. Publix:

    • Publix has been steadily expanding throughout the Southeast, and their focus on customer satisfaction aligns well with Jackson’s community-driven spirit. The challenge? Convincing them that Jackson’s market size and buying power are worth the investment. (Like Costco, Publix’s looks for areas with a high population of residents with a household income over $75,000.)

  1. Top Golf:

    • Top Golf looks for cities with a growing population and a love for sports and socializing. With Jackson’s central location in West Tennessee, this could be a feasible addition if community interest is strong enough to attract investors. (Top Golf ideal customer base has a household income of around $70,000.)

  2. Main Event:

    • Main Event focuses on locations where there is demand for all-ages entertainment and room for a large facility. Jackson’s growing emphasis on family-friendly activities and regional pull could make it a contender, especially with a strong push from local leaders and residents. (Main Events target customer base has a household income of about $65,000.)

There are several local options that offer some of what is desired. For grocery shopping there’s Grubb’s Grocery in downtown Jackson. For Golfers there’s Caddies Sports Club a golf simulator and sport club on Vann Drive. Also places like Brook Shaws Old Country Store off the 45 Bypass & Olympic Steakhouse in Bells right outside of Jackson offers some of what the buffet lovers want.

While Jackson’s population continues to increase year over year, none of these businesses will come to Jackson overnight. Jackson is consistently striving to become an attractive hub for new business, but there is still work to be done. Over the next 5 years, Tennessee is expected to continue seeing some of the most rapid growth in the state’s history. Jackson is trying to put itself in the best position possible to benefit from this.
