North Jackson is often looked at AS the place to be in Jackson and for the most part there’s good reason for this! But many residents who don’t live in North Jackson feel like their part of the city is being left out.

1️⃣ North Jackson & Everywhere Else 1️⃣

North Jackson has become synonymous with growth, opportunity, and progress in the city. Its flourishing economy, modern amenities, and influx of new businesses make it the go-to destination for shopping, dining, and recreation.

The area is a magnet for investments because of its proximity to affluent neighborhoods, its established infrastructure, and its appeal to developers seeking quick returns.

While the prosperity of North Jackson showcases Jackson's potential, it also highlights an imbalance. Investments in other parts of the city, including Midtown, South Jackson, and Downtown, pale in comparison. This disparity leaves many areas feeling overlooked, despite their rich history and cultural significance.

Pros of North Jackson's Growth:

🏡 Enhanced property values.
💼 Economic stimulation through retail and business expansion.
🎓 Opportunities for jobs and education.

Cons of Unequal Focus:

🚧 Other parts of the city struggle to compete for resources and attention.
🏚️ Infrastructure in less-developed areas deteriorates without reinvestment.
😞 Community morale suffers, widening social and economic gaps.

🚧 The Growing Divide 🚧

Why does North Jackson attract the lion’s share of investment? The answer lies in economics. Developers prioritize areas with a proven track record of growth, low risk, and high demand. North Jackson meets these criteria, making it the default choice for businesses and city planners alike.

This is something that cities all around the are struggling with!

However, this approach has consequences. Residents in Midtown, South Jackson, and beyond increasingly feel disconnected, as if their neighborhoods are afterthoughts. Despite efforts to allocate resources to these areas, the overwhelming focus on North Jackson exacerbates the perception of a divided city.

This divide isn't just about geography—it’s about identity. When one part of Jackson is prioritized over others, it creates an uneven playing field.

Which is why in a previous newsletter edition we talked about “Why Downtown Jackson Is So Important!” that we recommend you check out. It gives an overview of the importance downtown plays in getting us out of our comfort zone.

Allowing us to meet others from all over the city and giving us the chance to interact, hear, and know about things happening in other parts of Jackson.

A new restaurant may have opened in midtown Jackson that could be a new experience for you. A clothing store opened in South Jackson that might have things you can’t find anywhere else. And the list goes on!
