Some may not have noticed this yet but Tennessee is growing like crazy! Billions of dollars continue to flow into the state year over year and Tennessee continues to rank in the top 10 for best states for business. Here’s our breakdown of the growth rate for 2025 and how it will impact Jackson.
📈 Tennessee Expected Growth Rate in 2025 📈
Tennessee's economy is set to outpace the U.S. average in 2025, showcasing a promising path for the state. According to the 2025 Economic Report, Tennessee's inflation-adjusted gross domestic product (real GDP) is projected to grow by 2.5% this year, while the U.S. economy is expected to grow at a slightly slower pace of 2%. This comes after a strong recovery period where Tennessee experienced substantial growth rates of 9% in 2021 and 4% in 2022.
Adjacent states are also experiencing varying growth trends. Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida continue to see steady population and economic growth, but Tennessee's balanced approach to recovery and stabilization puts it in a unique position.
With projects like Ford's EV battery plant in West Tennessee and Orano's nuclear initiatives in Oak Ridge, Tennessee is laying the groundwork for sustained development across key sectors such as manufacturing, construction, and research and development.
Although Nashville Leads The Show, Other Cities Will Still Build From The Growth.
Job growth also reflects Tennessee’s economic health. The state added nearly 58,000 jobs in 2023, with an estimated 36,400 new positions expected in 2025. This growth rate surpasses the national average, particularly in industries like natural resources, construction, and mining, where Tennessee's growth is projected at 3.3% compared to 1.8% nationally.
🏆 Why Tennessee Is Winning 🏆
What sets Tennessee apart from neighboring states is its ability to combine a business-friendly climate, strategic investments, and a skilled workforce. With nearly 185,000 more Tennesseans employed today than before the pandemic, the state has maintained a steady recovery.
This progress is further supported by strong population growth, with Tennessee adding over 77,500 residents between 2022 and 2023—a growth rate of 1.1%, more than double the national average of 0.5%.
States like Mississippi and Kentucky, while sharing a similar cultural and geographic footprint, are not experiencing the same economic momentum. Factors such as slower job creation, less population in-migration, and limited large-scale investment projects have hindered their growth compared to Tennessee’s.
A notable example of Tennessee’s success is its strategic focus on high-paying, innovation-driven industries. While automation has led to fewer overall job commitments in some projects, the quality of jobs has improved, with higher wages and increased investment per project.
Coupled with ongoing investments in workforce development and higher education, Tennessee has and continues to positioned itself as a hub for innovation, particularly in sectors like artificial intelligence and renewable energy.

As Tennessee continues to thrive, Jackson and West Tennessee are reaping the benefits of the state’s economic success. With large-scale projects like Ford's BlueOval City in Haywood County, Aluko in Madison County, Great Wolf Lodge in Jackson and other developments in the region, Jackson is poised for significant growth in the coming years.
These initiatives will bring thousands of higher paying jobs to the area, offering opportunities for local residents and attracting new talent to the region.
The city is also seeing an influx of new businesses and residents, contributing to a vibrant local economy. While this growth is exciting, it also comes with challenges, such as increased traffic and the need for expanded infrastructure to support the growing population.
For Jackson residents, especially the younger residents these changes signal a more exciting era for the city. Real estate investments and construction projects are expected to rise, creating opportunities for local businesses and service providers.
The city’s strategic location in West Tennessee positions it as a key player in the state’s economic story, making it an attractive destination for businesses and individuals seeking a balance of opportunity and quality of life.
